The best calcium addition for Chicken Food, that produces top quality eggshells that are more saleable. The Oystershell is washed, dried, heated, crushed and screened. The Oyster Shell is also Microbiologically Sterile.

Your chicken's eggs are mainly made up of calcium carbonate and insufficient calcium intake makes shells soft, resulting in poor quality eggs. Oyster shell grit is an ideal source of calcium. All chickens need grit to help them digest their food, the small pieces of oyster shell grit or small stones they find serve as the chickens teeth, as they only have a beak.

The calcium from the oyster shell grit is 100% digestible and is slowly released into the bloodstream of your chickens, it has a coarse structure that remains in your chicken's gizzard for longer, causing the calcium to be gradually released over time, rather than being absorbed in one go!

Keeping calcium levels constant in the blood stream of chickens for much longer, especially over night will result in high quality eggs, with firm shells that are more saleable and less likely to be damaged, consequently we recommend using oyster shell grit as a supplement.

Oystershell grit is also used by organic gardeners and vegetable growers to control slugs and snails, who understandably like the taste of your home grown plants and cabbage. By placing chicken oyster shell grit around the base of your plants and vegetables, to form a barrier that deters pests from munching away to whatever takes their fancy!

Oyster grit is a pesticide free alternative to control unwanted pests in your garden, without using slug pellets that could poison the wild life that visits your garden including hedgehogs, who are quite happy to rid you of both slugs and snails for free.

Using oyster shell grit instead of pellets, is not only environmentally friendly, but will also allow your chickens to have total freedom in your garden, without the need to fence areas off or worry about what your chickens are eating when routing around in your garden!
