Wooden Dog Combs come in a variety of different sizes, for instance fine, medium and coarse that are determined by the pitch of the comb, or the gap between the teeth, the closer the teeth are together the finer the comb. Dog combs are very useful for removing dead hair, locating tangles and teasing them out, but must be used gently to avoid damage to the skin.

The smoother or shorter your dogs coat, the finer the pitch of the dog comb should be and it may be worthwhile investing in a double sided comb which has two grades in one. With modern centrally heated houses your dog will need to be brushed more to avoid matting or tangled hair.
