The attractive Butterfly Feeder and Habitat is made from solid FSC timber, with a real copper verdigris roof, that combines a safe over wintering and interactive habitat with a central feeding station. Activity is visible through the window openings and the central sponge shown in yellow can be charged with the supplied sachet of butterfly food that includes added essential vitamins or a sugar water solution to encourage and help butterflies to feed thereby increasing their survival rates.

Butterflies will use the house for roosting and may also be used by hibernating small tortoiseshell and peacock butterflies that are often in sheds or outbuildings as well as the comma butterfly.

The Butterfly Feeder may also help early pollinating bumble bees survive volatile early spring weather and the large silver winged fritillary butterfly may also use the habitat feeder to lay eggs, but must be sited on mature trees to encourage them to use the feeder. If eggs are laid the chrysalis could be formed on the roof or internal branches of the habitat feeder.

Before positioning the butterfly feeder, open the window and introduce a branched twig, then site the box in a warm sheltered position, out of prevailing winds that ideally catches the morning sun, near scented or attractive plants on a wall, fence, tree or post. The habitat feeder is approximately 36.5 cm high x 16 cm wide x 17 cm depth.
