Arden Grange Puppy Junior Large Breed contains ethically produced human grade chicken, no battery farmed chickens are used in the puppy food and has been developed to meet the nutritional demands of large and giant breed puppies, formulated using large kibbles that are perfect for larger breeds for example German Shepherds, Labradors and Newfoundlands that can be fed dry or moistened depending on your puppies preference.
A large or giant breed puppy ideally requires a food with a moderate fat content to support bone growth, without excessive weight gain, consequently arden grange puppy junior large breed has been formulated to ensure a controlled and steady growth rate, that's lower in calories to help avoid health problems like the development of bone disease, that is associated with over nutrition of large and giant breed puppies.
Arden Grange Puppy Junior Large Breed Chicken and Rice uses chicken oil as the primary fat source as it's easily digested by most puppy breeds and contains high levels of glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM which will help protect your puppy's joints during skeletal development as well as antioxidants and nucleotides to support the developing immune system.
Arden grange large breed puppy junior should be fed from 8 weeks of age to 12 months approximately, or up to 18 months of age for giant breeds such as Mastiffs, Great Danes & Saint Bernards. After 12 or 18 months you can change your large breed puppy to
Arden Grange Adult Large Breed, that's has been formulated specifically for the nutritional requirements of large and giant adult dogs or perhaps the adult lamb & rice or salmon & rice varieties.
Like all arden grange dog foods the large breed puppy junior food contains prebiotics to help remove harmful bacteria, thereby reducing digestive upsets, whilst the inclusion of nucleotides maximises the digestion of food in the gut, allowing optimum levels of nutrients to be absorbed by your puppy. The large breed puppy food is also hypoallergenic and free from wheat gluten, dairy products, beef, soya as well as artificial colourings, flavourings and preservatives to avoid adverse food reactions.
The symptoms of food allergies vary from digestive disorders to skin complaints, but feeding your puppy a hypoallergenic food is less likely to trigger an adverse food reaction than non-hypoallergenic, meat derivative based foods that may contain artificial colours and flavours. As they normally do not specify exactly what you are feeding your puppy, making it extremely difficult to exclude ingredients that may cause a food allergy or intolerance!
Lastly arden grange large breed puppy junior contains natural antioxidant vitamins A, C, E, beta carotene, yucca, cranberry and rosemary oil to inhibit the formation of destructive free radicals and omega 3 & 6 fatty acids in the correct ratios for good skin and coat condition. Cranberry extract is also added to the puppy junior food to help maintain urinary tract health, whilst yucca may also help with body and faecal odour.
How much puppy food should I feed?
One of the many questions, new puppy owners ask us by email or phone, is how much arden grange puppy food they should feed their growing large breed puppy?
So arden grange have included a recommended feeding chart, that shows the amount of food approximately you should feed your puppy from 8 weeks of age on the bags, that is calculated using your puppies weight in kg's and age in weeks, but please remember that factors such as your puppy's breed, metabolism and activity level will all influence the amount of food required by your large breed puppy, so you may need to increase or decrease your puppy's daily feeding quantity depending on their individual calorie requiements!
Feeding a premium puppy food like arden grange, in our opinion is a worthwhile investment as the healthy development of your puppy, will help avoid problems such as growth defects caused by an inadequate diet or over nutrition that can also affect your puppy's appearance, overall demeanour and temperament making it harder for owners to train and handle young puppies.
When should I change from Arden Grange Puppy Large Breed?
Another question we are asked frequently by owners, is when should they change from a puppy food to an adult recipe?
Regardless of the brand, the consensus from pet food nutritionists is to gradually change your puppy's diet over a week or so that your young adult dog's digestive system adapts to the new nutrient levels and ingredients in the food.
As a simple rule of thumb, we suggest you consider changing from your large breed puppy food to an adult recipe, when your puppy reaches its maximum skeletal height, i.e. the height your puppy should be as an adult dog, then if your large breed puppy is just filing out, maybe consider changing to an arden grange adult variety, such as the chicken and rice or lamb and rice shown on the website.
Depending upon your breed, a puppy will mature at different rates, for example larger breeds such as a labrador or boxer will mature much slower than a miniature or small breed dog, but developmental rates will also be influenced by your puppies, build, metabolism and digestion. You can always contact your breeder for advice, speak to your vet or ring arden grange to chat to a nutritionist if you have any questions.
