Cuttlefish Bone is an ideal source of calcium for your cage and aviary birds, that allows your, Finches, Budgies, Canaries and Small Parakeets to keep their beaks trim and sharp. Cuttlefish will also help to keep your birds occupied, whilst at the same time providing them with an excellent source of calcium, which is essential for birds laying eggs.
But what exactly is cuttlebone? It's simply the internal shell or bone of a cuttlefish, it's a hard, chalky, brittle and contains about 85% calcium, making it ideal for increasing your birds' calcium levels.
Cuttlebone is also a fantastic source of calcium for other animals too, not just birds. For example, it's ideal for tortoises and turtles as it's helps keep their beaks trim and provides them with essential dietary calcium for a healthy bone structure. Did you know a tortoise & turtles shell is made of bone and is part of their spine?
Snails also love cuttlefish bone and is safer for them to eat than eggshells, as it doesn't have the sharp edges, simply place the bone in your vivarium and watch them chip away at it. Chinchillas are notorious for their dental problems and having access to cuttlebone to chew on, helps them to grind their teeth down and is fun too!
