Product Description

Layers Pellets should be fed 3 weeks before your chickens start to lay, which is approximately 20 - 24 weeks of age, the point of lay will vary depending on the variety of chickens you keep, for instance Buff, Sussex, Brahmas and Wyandotte, but are also suitable for laying ducks and bantams.

Our layers pellets contain optimum levels of essential omega 3 & 6 oils, fatty and amino acids for good egg size, with generous levels of calcium & phosphorus to help good shell strength, with added natural pigments Lutein & Zeaxathin from marigold and maize extracts and Citranaxanthin found naturally in fruits for a deep yolk colour.

Dodson and Horrell layers pellets do not require any additional limestone or oyster shell grit to accompany them, but access to grit, plant material or fresh vegetables to encourage natural foraging is recommended to prevent boredom. Unlike some bulk layers pellets sold online our chicken pellets are non medicated, so they don't contain antibiotics or added wormer, but are fully traceable making them ideal for small holders or pet owners with ex battery hens or free range chickens who keep them just for eggs.

We are often asked by customers what our opinion is on medicated feeds and to be honest our answer is that we wouldn't advise anyone to eat eggs whilst your chickens are on a medicated diet to be on safe side and refer to the instructions on the layers pellets as to how long the chicken antibiotics are in their systems after you stop feeding the food, to prevent you from ingesting them.

Pellets are ideal for owners with chickens that selectively feed as it prevents them from eating only what they want, making sure they receive a balance diet and are used by many customers as they economical to feed, available in Vat Free bulk bags, less wasteful and not as dusty as Layers Mash.

Each pellet contains the same blend of beneficial ingredients found in layers mash or meal, but in compressed pellets whereas layers mash is often used by small holders and pet chicken owners to keep their birds occupied, to solve feather pecking and other boredom related problems, but in a coarse ground mix that can be fed dry or wet.

We advise all customers with chickens to feed layers pellets ad lib, as the complete food has been formulated to keep your chickens healthy, but if they get bored you can always add fresh vegetables or mixed corn sparingly to create interest providing your chickens do not selectively feed and just leave the pellets.

Lastly Dodson and Horrell layers pellets are 100% natural, are vegetarian society approved, don't contain any GM ingredients and suitable for both free range and outdoor laying chickens, so you can be assured that you are feeding your chickens a high quality balanced feed.

How many layer pellets should I feed my chickens?

Myself and friend.... Review by Donna M
Myself and a friend got chickens at the same time about a year ago and I have always used the full range Dodson & Horrell bought from Valu-Direct Pet Supplies of course and she used another brand which I will not name but is not Dodson & Horrell and well to say the least my chickens are by far in the best health and lay the most beautiful eggs. She finally listen to me and started to use Dodson & Horrell and Valu-Direct Pet Supplies about 2 months ago and well the difference is unbelievable. Always recommend Dodson & Horrell and Valu-Direct Pet Supplies. The food and service is the best. (Posted on 24/09/2015)
