Hemp Seed is rich in oil and protein and should be used with other seed mixtures or straight seed varieties, available on the website to create a wild bird food that will attract a wide range of bird species to your garden.

Please note hemp seed should be offered to your birds in small quantities as birds will gain weight quickly if fed exclusively on the seed, so we always advise mixing the food with other bird seed varieties.

Hemp seed is eaten by most seed eating wild birds, especially finches and is widely used as a fishing bait for carp too! Hemp seeds are actually nuts and not seeds, that are highly nutritious, contain essential fatty acids and amino acids, that taste similar to pine nuts and sunflower seeds.

Finch breeders will often mix hemp seed with cage and aviary bird foods, that have been formulated for British or foreign finches or straight seeds to encourage breeding and improve the colouration of their show birds and contains approximately half the oil content of linseed.

Hemp seed can be used on bird tables or in seed feeders and is loved by Chaffinch, Bramblings, Bullfinches, Buntings, Greenfinches, Nuthatches, Sparrows, Blue Tits, Marsh Tit, Willow Tits and Woodpeckers.
